For this mother's day, at r y e, we've been contemplating the timeless nature of a mother's love, carefully passed down through generations. Stepping into the limelight are the narratives of four remarkable mothers in their own right, each gracefully navigating the ever-evolving phases of motherhood. Infused with pearls of wisdom, sprinkles of audacity, and an overflow of tenderness, these tales resonate as cherished heirlooms—eternally bestowed, eternally genuine. From the heart of every mother, always with love. |
As Lynn Yeo observes her children becoming parents themselves, she reflects on her role as a grandmother and her journey as a mother spanning two generations. From reminiscing on her evolving style, her marked fondness for the eclectics of the '60s, and the grounding effect of her routines and rituals, she shares her story with a hope to impart the wisdom of resilience and kindness that are the cornerstone of her family's legacy. |
what is something you hope to pass down to your children?
L: I hope to pass down a sense of both resilience and kindness. Life will throw them curveballs, but with a good heart and a fierce spirit, my children and grandchildren can handle and overcome anything! |
what fashion moment or trend from your youth are you thrilled to see making a comeback?
L: The '60s! That era was a playground of experimental fashion for me. Bold prints, psychedelic colours, and structural silhouettes. I’m thrilled to see them making a contemporary comeback every now and then, too. Fashion trends aside, it was such a good time for big experimental hairstyles as well. I’ve always loved big, voluminous hair, and I continue to appreciate it even more as I advance into my golden years. |

how do you stay connected with your children, especially as they grow older and become more independent?
L: Whether it’s a weekly phone call, a spontaneous visit, or a flurry of texts sharing photos and videos, staying connected is all about showing up and being present in each other’s lives. The relationship should feel effortless, yet assuring at the same time. After all, age is just a number. Believe me when I say the bond between a mother and her children grows stronger with time.I guess the saying is true – ‘mothers always do know best’. |
how do you define your personal style, and how it has evolved over the years?
L: My journey with fashion is like a fine wine – it only gets better with age! From my younger days of experimenting with bold colours and wild patterns to now, where I prefer classic elegance with a modern twist, my personal style journey has been quite the ride. Overall, I would say my approach to fashion today is always effortlessly put-together and comfortably chic. |
in what ways do you think motherhood has changed since you became a mother, and how do you see it evolving in the future?
L: I believe motherhood will continue to evolve in exciting ways. With advancements in technology, changes in family structures, and shifts in societal norms, we're bound to see new opportunities and challenges emerge. Yet, the essence of motherhood remains timeless – it's about love, resilience, and the bond between parent and child.

how do you celebrate Mother's Day, and has the way you celebrate evolved as your children have grown?
L: Mother’s Day is a celebrated affair with the family! I get to spend time with each of my children individually over lavish brunches and/or dinners, as well as spa days as they grew older. What a treat! Each year brings new traditions and memories to cherish, and I absolutely love the time we get together. |
do you have any rituals or routines that make you feel confident and empowered as a grandmother?
L: Confidence and empowerment as a grandmother come from a lifetime of experience and wisdom. One of my cherished rituals involves verbally sharing stories and passing down traditions to my children and grandchildren. Additionally, staying active and engaged in my community keeps me feeling vital and connected. Attending social gatherings, occasional travel, and participating in faith activities not only enrich my life but also allow me to serve as a positive role model for my family. Embracing change with an open mind and a sense of adaptability has been key. In essence, my rituals and routines as a maternal figure are rooted in love and tradition. |
